This project is part of the “Ready, Set, Splash!” pool party series.

Every funky, retro pool party needs some flamingos. Balloon flamingos, that is! Here’s how to make them.

Supplies:

  • Balloon Time Helium Tank
  • One regular 11” pink balloon per flamingo
  • One pink twisting balloon per flamingo
  • Hot glue gun
  • White tissue paper
  • Black marker
  • String

Instructions:

  1. Use your helium tank to inflate both the twisting and regular latex balloons. Leave a 4-5 inch tail on the twisting balloon; tie the regular balloon with string.
  2. Slightly bend and curve the twisting balloon (they are very moldable) so it looks like the curved neck of a flamingo. Then, with your hot glue gun on its low heat setting, place a dot of hot glue* just above the knot of your regular balloon and adhere the tail end (just above the tail) of your twisting balloon. Hold in place until set.
  3. To finish your flamingo, give him a beak. Cut out a beak shape from the white tissue paper and color the tip black. Use another dot of hot glue to attach it to the top end of his neck.

*Pro tip: Yes, you can hot glue balloons. It is important, however, to never touch the metal tip of the hot glue gun to the balloon. That could pop it.
